　　这是2020考研英语(一)翻译所选杂志部分的第二章，2020年的翻译真题就是选自这章，这章标题叫做：Dare to Know(敢于求知)，这个是康德在他的一篇文章中用来形容启蒙运动的。

　　标题：Dare to Know

　　摘要：How Europe was shaken by the intellectual and philosophical movement that dominated the world of ideas。欧洲是如何被主导思想世界的知识和哲学运动(启蒙运动)动摇的

　　shake vt. 使动摇。—— shaky adj. 摇摇晃晃的;不稳定的;不牢靠的。

　　2010翻译：(46) Scientists jumped to the rescue with some distinctly shaky evidence to the effect that insects would eat us up if birds failed to control them.

　　that部分是定语从句，修饰movement。dominate vt. 主导;支配;控制。—— dominant adj. 主导的;占支配地位的。

　　这里作者把这种 “创造力 ”的爆发称作是 “文艺复兴” ，但是，翻译的时候，中文不能这里表达，所以处理成状语。

　　explode v. 爆发;爆炸(这个表示由内而外爆发，喷薄而出的意思，implode vt. 內爆，前缀：ex- 表示：向外的意思，而，im-表示：向内的意思)。—— explosion n. 爆炸;爆发(explosion of Covid-19)

　　creativity n. 创造力。

　　known as部分是形容词短语修饰explosion，就是把这种“创造力”的爆发称作是：文艺复兴。

　　句子主干：the modern world saw a departure from what it had once known.

　　see vt. 见证，同witness，这个词2018年翻译考过：(46)By the date of his birth Europe was witnessing the passing of the religious dramas, and the creation of new forms under the incentive of classical tragedy and comedy.

　　departure n. 离开;背离。—— depart vt. 离开;违背。

　　what部分是宾语从句，it指代这个世界，这里是说现代世界开始和旧的世界(封建迷信，天主教统治的世界分离，走向知识和理性)。

　　②It turned from God and the authority of the Roman Catholic Church and instead favoured a more humanistic approach to being.它背离了上帝和罗马天主教会的权威，而倾向于一种更人性化的存在方式。

　　这个句子的完整版是：It turned from God and the authority of the Roman Catholic Church to being，and Itinstead favoured a more humanistic approach to being.(即，这里出现了省略)

　　it指代的是这个世界，turn from A to B：由A转向B，由A变成B。being n. 生命;生物;人类;存在(哲学概念)，这里本质是说，由神转向人，由神权转向俗权(有点专业)。

　　instead adv. 而。favour vt. 喜欢;偏爱;n. 支持;赞赏;帮助。

　　humanism n. 人文主义。—— humanistic adj. 人文主义的;人道主义的。approach n. 方法;途径。

　　spread into：传播到...;蔓延到...。

　　with部分是伴随状语：with the arts and sciences flourishing extraordinarily among those with a more logical disposition.

　　flourish vt. 繁荣;兴盛;挥舞。这里用的是with sth doing sth。

　　extraordinary adj. 非凡的;非同寻常的;特别的。—— extraordinarily adv. 非凡地;非常。

　　with部分是介词短语后置定语修饰those：with a more logical disposition.

　　logical adj. 逻辑的。dispose vt. 处理;安排;倾向。—— disposition n. 性格;性情;倾向;安排。(这里是说那些更具有逻辑思维的人，更加倾向于用逻辑和理性去思考问题的人，即：科学和艺术在这些人之间非常流行，换句话说，就是这些人非常推崇科学和艺术)。

　　with部分是伴随状语，用的是with...doing...：

　　teaching n. 教义。way of thinking：思考方式。。

　　eclipse vt. 使黯然失色。这里用的是被动，处理成被动不适合，应该处理成主动。

　　句子主干：the gap between the medieval and modern periods had been bridged，①中世纪与现代世界之间的鸿沟被消除。②中世纪与现代世界之间的差距已经被消除。

　　bridge the gap/gulf/divide(between A and B)：消除(A、B之间的)隔阂;鸿沟;分歧。这里是用的被动，这里可以翻译成被动，语义是通顺的。

　　the medieval n. 中世纪。modern period：现代世界(指的就是中世纪之后的世界)。

　　leading to new and unexplored intellectual territories.这就催生了全新的和未知的知识领域。

　　这部分是分词结构做状语，表示结果，相当于结果状语从句，就是前面发生的事情所导致的结果。

　　unexplored adj. 未知的;无人涉足的;未经勘探的;未画进地图的。

　　territory n. 领土;领域;地带;地盘。

　　这个词在2015年，英语一翻译真题的49句出现过：2015 (49) The first shiploads of immigrants boundfor the territory which is now the United States crossed the Atlantic more thana hundred years after the 15th- and 16th-century explorations of North America.(历史就是这样，考得好不好，取决于你是不是认真复习真题了)。

　　总结：段说文艺复兴的影响不断加大，旧世界与新世界之前的差距缩小了!
